As the Son of David, Jesus Christ was heir to the throne of the Kingdom of Israel. King David was promised by God that his seed would build a temple to the Lord, and the throne of this son would be established forever. David's son Solomon built a magnificent temple to the LORD, established his father's kingdom in peace, and had wisdom above all other men of the earth. However, Solomon's temple was eventually toppled, and his kingdom destroyed - testifying that Solomon did not fulfill God's promise to David.
Jesus built another temple to the LORD (his resurrected body), had wisdom greater than Solomon (he was able to discern the thoughts of people's hearts), and will establish the kingdom of his Father when he returns to earth again in complete fulfillment of God's promise to David that "I will be his father, and he shall be my son."

And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever. I will be his father, and he shall be my son. (II Samuel 7:12-14)

Christ was like David his father
- Now, God has lived through the age through His people. It was God that was in David, that made him set upon the mountain and--as a rejected king and weep. That same Spirit was manifested in Jesus the Son of David, Who was rejected in Jerusalem and wept.

- And it was in Bethlehem where David was borned. And his greater Son Jesus was also had to be born in Bethlehem, because there's such a close knit between the two, as father and son. Not only was this great Son only the Son, He was the Root and the Offspring of David; He was even before David; He'll be after David; He was for everlasting, from everlasting on. But according to the flesh and all the things to be fulfilled, He was the Son of David. He was to be born years later in this same Bethlehem, this little forsaken city.

The wisdom of Solomon, foolishness of man
- Now, we all know that Solomon's age was the Millennium, almost, of the Old Testament. It was the greatest time, of all Israel ever had, was under the reign of Solomon; no wars to speak of, and they had a great time. God gave Solomon, which was a son of David, gave him a gift of discernment, and now he could discern the thoughts in the people's heart....And Solomon was the son of David, but he was the lesser son of David, by the flesh; and Jesus was the Son of David, by Seed of the promise, the royal Seed. And here was a greater than Solomon standing there, doing the same thing that Solomon done, only being a greater than Solomon, and they called it "Beelzebub."

- Solomon was a great man. And he was a son of David and prefigured the Lord Jesus. So his kingdom, of course, was earthly and it perished. But the Son of David which is Jesus, His Kingdom will never perish.
- And we notice that in the days of Solomon... And Jesus declared that the day that they lived in was greater than the day that Solomon lived. And how much greater then even if the blasphemy would be forgiven then, and in this day it cannot be forgiven. What a greater day this is than it was then. Even when He walked in Galilee, His actions and His works today before men is all more sinful to turn it down than it was when He was here on earth. Oh, if the Church would only wake up to these things.

Building a temple
- And David desired to build Him a house..."But I just can't let you build a Temple, because I'm going to let your son build it." For it was in types and shadows. Solomon built Him a temple. But the true Son of David is Jesus Christ, that built the real Temple, that was borned a virgin birth. And in His body is the everlasting Temple of God. But in types and in dedication, Solomon built the temple. Remember, it was cut out of every different kind of stone. It was cut this way and that way. And for forty years in its structure, there was not heard the buzz of a saw or the pounding of a hammer. It was so perfectly cut out.

The Gentile approach to the Son of David
- Now, this woman, this Syrophenician woman, she believed also, this Greek....First she said, "Thou Son of David." A Gentile has no hold on Christ by the Son of David; that was through King David, the race of Jews. He never paid any attention to her. But when she turned and said, "Lord, help me," (Amen.), that got Him. He was her Lord; not a Son of David, but He was her Lord. "Lord, help me." That caught Him. And...He disgraced her; He said, "You're... I'm not sent to you. You're dogs in your generation. Your races are nothing but dogs. I'm not sent to you."
- She said, "It's truth, Lord." There's the Word. Amen. Stay with the Word. Faith will always recognize the Word. "But the dogs eat the crumbs under their masters' table." That got Him. "Lord, help me."
- He turned and He said, "For this saying... O woman, great is your faith. And for this saying, the devil's left your daughter." What? She got what? She approached God's gift in the right way.

Blind Bartimaeus: The Jewish approach to the Son of David
- Did you ever read the Bible 'fore you lost your sight?"
- "Many times."
- "Do you know the Son of David?"
- "Yes. He's to come."
- "There, He's just passed by."
- Then Bartimaeus must've said, "If that's Him, my voice... I'm weak and old. The only thing I can do is say, 'Jehovah, have mercy. Oh, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me.'"
