This article is one in a series of studies on Jesus as Son - you are currently on the topic that is in bold:
Jesus Christ was born to a virgin named Mary, who was espoused to a righteous man named Joseph. Mary prophecied that all subsequent generations would call her blessed, and Jesus was called the "son of Mary" by others around him (the Bible records that Jesus only called her "Woman").
God had prophecied in the Garden of Eden that the "seed of the woman" would crush the serpent's head. Jesus Christ became subject to the shame of natural birth: part of the curse established in the Garden of Eden. By this, God became a kinsman with Adam's race through the Son of God, Christ Jesus.
