Main Page

Regarding how we should style the main page. I have typed this here as I don't know if you wanted to try to simulate this on the wiki site as I thought we were going to use the other page as a front. Anyways:

1. We should give the reader significant direction on the main page,
2. There should be few words on the main page,
3. The main page should be simple and not cluttered
4. There should be color, either by way of a central photo, or photos, or possibly a short flash presentation

I would take the content from the top box in the current proposed main page and have this as the only text on the page. If the flash presentation runs the 'Only Once' sequence, then the links should be worded to 'play' off this introduction. Each portal can then have the box style template.

For example: "Only once, in all history, has a supernatural being been photographed. There is a reason." should lead to "About the Photograph", "The reason for the Sign", "What does this mean to me" as central links. Two sub-set of links should direct the user as follows: Other Signs: "Healings", "Vindication", "Prophecies", "Restoration of Truth", Things you need to know: "Who is God, and what does He want", "Who was William Branham", "The Exodus" (use this as a link to an overview of the message around the world today), "Etc...")

These should all be 'eye catching' central topics. The links themselves may be controversial or invite a click, such as "Who is God". Things such as "eyewitness testimonies" will be highlighted links from the "Healings", "Vindication", and "Who was William Branham" portals as opposed to links on the main page, as that (to me) flows logically.

We should also use "Revelation" or "Restoration of Truth" instead of "Doctrines" as these words are way more interesting, and present a positive, rather than restrictive, image of the underlying subjects. Believethesign 22:35, 24 June 2006 (CDT)

Greek words in English

There may be a style guideline decision to be made concerning the English transliterations of Greek words. According to some guidelines, Greek words are always capitalized, based on the fact that the original Greek text in UNCTIALS capitalized all letters. To capitalize them as quoted from the bible is actually a direct transliteration. However, in other trends, such as most interlinear Bibles, the texts is both lower case and upper case, converting to English standards. I think this is ok in most cases, but in some cases, it adds confusion for the researcher, since there are editorial decisions being made in deciding what and what not to capitalize. These turn into Bible interpretation decisions. For example, most Greek interlinear Bible's capitalize "Father, Son, and Holy Ghost" in Matt. 28:19, reflecting the interpreters bias that these are proper names. However, in the original greek there is no such capitalization. Once I realized this could happen, I made a decision to stay with the strict transliteration of Greek originals and keep all Caps. I appreciate that the use of UNCIALS were common in early Greek manuscripts. However, my understanding is that this stylistic usage was not really common until the 3rd century AD and therefore is not necessarily indicative of the original text. -BroRod 08:20, 10 October 2006 (CDT)

Need For Monitors

This Page is about something that is very sacred to all "Believers". Respect for the simplicity of the "overall Message" ought to take precedent over individual(s) whose only aim maybe to get private interpretations across to the people.

Will believethesign.org be a "free for all" or will monitors (online deacons) be appointed to oversee what is placed on-line? It's frightening to think that just "anybody" can "add to" and/or "take away" from what is placed there. There are a lot of "fanatics in the extreme" out there just waiting for something like this. What measures or policies are in place to control these things? God bless you. Bro. Gerald.

This is not like Wikipedia. We have changed the access security so that a person must get an account and password before they can make any changes to any of the articles. Currently there are only 2 people, my son and myself, that have the ability to issue accounts and passwords.

We would never do this on an "open to everyone" basis.

Additionally, we will be changing the default skin to people from the public so that they don't even see the login buttons or any of the editing menus on the left side of the page.

One last thing is that I also have the ability to revoke someone editing privileges so that if somehow an extreme fanatic did start putting things on the site we could remove their ability to edit. BroRod 17:52, 7 December 2006 (CST)

I'm assuming also that we won't release articles on to the public side of the site until they are done? In other words when we go live it's not going to be site wide, but rather each finished article. Correct? And on live articles, will they still be able to be edited live? When the site goes live, we simply remove the restriction on viewing the site to the general public. We can't do this on a page by page basis, however, we can ensure that pages that aren't public simply aren't linked from the main pages. Editors will still be able to edit on a live basis. Currently the public can't view or edit; when we go live we will remove the viewing restriction but leave the editing restriction so that you can't edit unles you have an ID and password. I'm sure you have thought of this already, but... are off site backups being done of the wiki site (besides the hosting company's)? Either way, I'd be willing to help in this area on a weekly basis. CARDS

Hi Bro Rod

Some brothers from my church went to the mens meeting and they recieved some of the cards printed for the website. They have been witnessing and using them, however they are now out of cards. I was wondering if you can send us some. I havent had a chance to do any work on here, been so busy with work and church, I should be available in a week or so.

We had 10,000 cards printed and I have only received 1 to date. They took a ton to the men's meeting and distributed them to those attending the meeting. What we are going to do is to put up a graphic file on a separate website so that people can download the grpahics and get the cards printed themselves, which is much more effective than shipping them all over the place. At the top of this page are three navigation links entitled 'Home', 'Links', and 'Witnessing Resources'. Click on the 'Witnessing Resources' link. This page starts to tell you about the card file. Click 'read more' at the bottom of the first paragraph. This will then give you the option to download a .pdf or a .eps file that you can send to a local print shop.
