The Word of God created the world, and is the first physical manifestation of God that we can understand.  The Word of God also spoke with Adam in the garden of Eden, to Moses out of a burning bush, to John the Baptist when the Holy Spirit descended on Jesus, and to the apostle Paul as a great shining light.  The Word of God is both the promise of God and the manifestation of God.
