What is the Holy Spirit?
The Holy Spirit is the spirit of God.
What is the purpose of the Holy Spirit?
The Holy Spirit is a witness that God is truth, and converts those that repent. It is the key to a healthy relationship with God.
How do you receive the Holy Spirit?
Repent, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins.
What is the evidence of someone posessing the Holy Spirit?
Obedience to the Word of God, and expression and witness to His life:
- For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. For every tree is known by his own fruit. (Luke 6:43-44a)
- But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, (John 14:26a)
- But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me... (Acts 1:8a)
- ...and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness. (Acts 4:31b)

Jesus said "God is Spirit" (John 4:24). The word “Spirit” means “breath” or “wind.” Jesus also said, "The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit." (John 3:8)
Miracles proclaim the power of the Father, and love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance proclaim the presence of the Holy Spirit. Being filled with the Holy Spirit is called being "born again" or "born of the Spirit". The Holy Spirit is holy, and those filled with the Holy Spirit will likewise be holy.
Before Jesus ascended into Heaven, he said "behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high." (Luke 24:49) When the disciples returned to Jerusalem, they were baptized by the Holy Spirit, and boldly proclaimed the Word of the Lord. Receiving the Holy Ghost is the only way to participate in God's plan of redemption and restoration that began in the Garden of Eden, when God asked Adam "Where art thou?" Only after you have been born again can you live holy as God originally intended you to be.
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. (Acts 2:38-39)
