Branham Tabernacle is located at 804 Penn Street in Jeffersonville, Indiana (on the northeast corner of E. 8th Street and Penn Street).

History

Ad from October 1935

The Pentecostal Tabernacle was the original name of the church founded by William Branham in the 1930's. As a result, we know that at some point in time the name was changed from the Pentecostal Tabernacle, to Branham Tabernacle.

The church property was purchased on November 9, 1937 as shown on the Warranty Deed.

Original purchase deed

It is quite strange that the renamed church building had a sacred pentagram" above the door. Is this because William Branham was associated with the Freemasons?

Was William Branham a narcissist? Changing the name of the church you pastored to bear your own name would seem to be a clear demonstration of this.

Quotes by William Branham

The Pentagram was still there in the early '50's (click to enlarge)

You Tabernacle here, I told you we're going to change the name of this. It's not right for it to be “Branham Tabernacle.” That's just a man. See? We're going to change the name of it, make it some other name. We'll get on that after while. I just want it to be a—a church of the living God. I don't want it “Methodist,” “Baptist,” “Presbyterian,” “Pentecostal,” I... All those people I love with all my heart. I don't know which one's which. I can't tell you.[1]

I wished it wasn't Branham Tabernacle. I wished it was just called, The Tabernacle, didn't even have my name attached to it. I'm fixing to turn this church.... You all know when we bought it. I bought it when I worked for the Public Service Company. And put this thing up here, and they just called it that because that Brother Seward and them attached my name to it when they put it on the deed down there. Just as soon as I can get clear of this thing that we're in now, this church is going to be turned over to this ... a community; and just given, my name taken off of it.

I don't think my name ought to be on that church. It oughtn't to be a Branham Tabernacle, should just be a church. The Church of the Lord Jesus Christ, or something like that, The Tabernacle of the Lord, see? The Dwelling Place, The House of Prayer, or something or other, given some kind of a name. Let the congregation choose their name. My name—I'm just a man. My name don't deserve to be on this, not no more than nothing. The reason it had to put my name on this, because my name was on the deed, said, "Billy Branham." See? And it shouldn't be there. No, sir. It should be a community church. This should be to the congregation here.[2]

You can't get around the Word of God. When God says do a certain thing, that's exactly what God means to do. That's right. So now let's us join up together. Let us be a bunch of people here, in this little old tabernacle, not because.... If you want to take that name of mine off the front out there, that.... They just put that on there. Just call it anything you want to. It don't make any difference. You can just call it "church," if you want to. It don't have to be a "Branham" tabernacle. Branham has nothing to do with it, not at all, not a thing. They just put my name up there because the deed was in my name there and they mailed it up. And I went down there and worked during the depression, and they brought their tithes in. Instead of me keeping it and not working, I put my own tithes in, and my offerings in, and the money in, and we built the tabernacle here. And it's built on the tabernacle, and that's the reason they call it Branham Tabernacle. That don't have one thing to do with it.[3]
