    [[Irenaeus]] taught that there is One God who reveals himself in different ways.  Irenaeus was a disciple of Polycarp, who was a disciple of John, Jesus' disciple.  Irenaeus preached against heresies and lived prior to the formulation of the Trinitarian doctrine by Tertullian and the formation of the Oneness doctrine by Sabellius.
