|The first recorded words of God in the Bible are "Let there be light" (Genesis 1:3). God appeared to Moses as a light, and later the skin of Moses face was transformed until it radiated light (Exodus 34:29). Jesus was also transformed before the disciples Peter, James and John, and his face radiated the same light (Matthew 17:2). Jesus said "as long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world".
Jesus later appeared to the Apostle Paul as a great shining light, and called Paul to be a "light to the gentiles". Paul wrote to the Gentiles and said "but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light". The children of light are the sons of God, just as Jesus is the Son of God.
In the last book of the Bible, the book of Revelation, New Jerusalem has no need of the sun or the moon, but rather the Lamb (Jesus) is the light of the city. Until that day, Paul admonishes all Christians to "put on the armour of light", which is the Word of God.

MATTHEW 5:14 | Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. |
MATTHEW 6:22-23 | The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness! |
MATTHEW 10:27 | What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops. |
MATTHEW 17:1-2 | And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. |
MARK 13:24 | But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, |
LUKE 1:79 | To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace. |
LUKE 2:32 | A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel. |
LUKE 16:8 | And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light. |
JOHN 1:4-9 | In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. |
JOHN 3:19-21 | And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God. |
JOHN 5:35-36 | He was a burning and a shining light: and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light. But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me. |
JOHN 8:12 | Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. |
JOHN 9:5 | As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. |
JOHN 11:9-10 | Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world. But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him. |
JOHN 12:35-36 | Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth. While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them. |
JOHN 12:46 | I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness. |
ACTS 12:7 | And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands. |
ACTS 13:46-47 | Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles. For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth. |
ACTS 26:13-15 | At midday, O king, I saw in the way a light from heaven, above the brightness of the sun, shining round about me and them which journeyed with me. And when we were all fallen to the earth, I heard a voice speaking unto me, and saying in the Hebrew tongue, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. And I said, Who art thou, Lord? And he said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest. |
ACTS 26:18 | To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. |

II CORINTHIANS 4:4 | In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake. For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. |
EPHESIANS 5:8 | For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: |

I JOHN 1:5-7 | This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. |
I JOHN 2:8 | Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth. He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now. He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him. |
