He was nevertheless extremely irresponsible in quoting a date, given that he was aware of all of the people that revered him as a prophet.  Prior to 1977, William Branham's followers were all fixated on 1977 as it approached. This resulted in a number of Doomsday cults such as Paulaseer Lowrie's Rapture cult in Tirunelveli, India as well as [[Jim Jones]] cult that committed mass suicide in 1978.
