There are a number of reasons why Jesus is called the Son of God:

#Jesus was a [[Son of David]], who was a Son of Adam, who was a son of God.
#Jesus was a created seed in the womb of the virgin Mary, making him a Son of God (like Adam).
#The book of Job records that the "sons of God" came before the LORD, and Satan was among them.  "Sons of God" therefore refers to heavenly beings, rather than earthly beings.
#God is a spirit, and the Son of God must also be a spirit.  Jesus' spirit was torn from his body at Calvary.  Before he ascended into Heaven, Jesus said that he would ask the Father to send the Comforter, which is the Holy Spirit, to teach his disciples so that he would abide with them forever.  Jesus also said: "I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you." The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Christ.  Jesus was telling his disciples that he would come in another form: the form of God (a spirit) rather than in the form of a Man (a body).
#When King Nebuchadnezzar threw three Hebrews into a furnace, he saw four "men" walking around, and the fourth was "like the Son of God".  The fourth man was in the form of a man, but looked like an angel: perhaps his face shone just like when Jesus was transfigured before Peter, James and John.
#Paul said: ''"For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God."'' (Romans 8:14)  As the Christ, the anointed Messiah, Jesus was led by the Spirit of God (which was inside him), and was the Son of God.

==Commentary by William Branham==

===God is a Spirit===
:''Jesus speaking to the woman at the well, He said, "God is a Spirit, and they that worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and Truth." Is that right? If God made man in His own image, what kind of man did He make then? A spirit man.
::Sermon: Q & A, Jeffersonville, IN, May 15, 1954

===The Son of the Father===
:''Jesus couldn't have been His Own Father, and if God is a Man, then Jesus was born sexual desire and not virgin birth. That settles the whole thing. You see? If He's one like your finger's one, then what? Then He was His Own daddy. How could He have been? That's wrong. He had a Father, Jesus did.
::Sermon: Lord, Show us the Father and it sufficeth us, Chicago, IL, Sept, 7, 1953.

:''Now, Jesus being man, physically, was tired, weary. Now laying there, tired; virtue had gone from Him. And then Him being God, He could only do what...
:''Now you say, "How could He be God and be man?" See, there is the mystery. See, in body He was man, in Spirit He was God. See?
:''Someone asked me, said, "Then how did, Who did He pray to in the Garden of Gethsemane?"
:''I said, "I'll answer you that when you answer this: Do you believe you have the Holy Ghost?"
:''"Yes"
:''I said, "Then Who do you pray to? Where is He at when you are praying to Him? When, you claim you have Him, and yet you're praying to Him." See? People just... they just get some little idea and run wild with it, you see, that's the way it goes.

:"I believe that Jesus is the Son of God. I believe that in His body He was a man. He was borned of a woman just like I was. But His Blood was not of a woman; It was of God. And Jehovah God, the Logos, Who brood over the earth (in my message this morning), and brood the first man out of the dust of the earth, overshadowed Mary, and brood over her to fulfill His Word, and created the Blood cell that brought forth the Son of the living God. I believe in a body He was man. I believe in His soul He was God. He was God's manifestation here on earth. God was in Christ, reconciling Him--the world to Himself. I believe that He was not just a mere man, neither was He a prophet; He was God Emmanuel. I believe with all my heart, that being truth.
::Sermon: God keeps his Word, Jeffersonville, IN, Jan 20, 1957

===The Logos===
:''God, in the beginning, was Spirit. And then, from God, went out the Logos, or the theophany, which was a form of a man, called the Son of God, prefigured. He came in earth, in a body of flesh, even before He came in Jesus Christ. Now swallow that one once, brother. I'll prove it to you.
:''When, when Moses saw Him. He said, "Let me see Your form, Lord." And God hid him in the rock. And when He passed by, he said, "It was the back part of a man." That was that theophany. That's exactly.
:''Then, that theophany had to be made flesh. Not another Person, but the same Person had to become flesh, to take the sting out of death.
::Sermon: Hebrews CH. 4, Jeffersonville, IN, Sept 1, 1957

:''Remember, our Lord Jesus Christ never did identify Himself as the Son of God. He said, "You said I was; to this end I was born," and so forth, but He never identified Himself.
:''And, now, that was the Pillar of Fire that led the children of Israel, was the Lord Jesus Christ in Spirit form, (do you believe that?) the Logos that went out of God. [Congregation said, "Amen."--Ed.]
:''And then when He was on earth, He said, "I come from God, and I go to God." We all know that.
:''And after His death, burial, and resurrection. Saul of Tarsus was on his road down to Damascus...the Pillar of Fire again, struck him down, in the middle of the day. And a Voice said... "I am Jesus Whom thou persecutest; and it's hard for you to kick against the pricks."
::Sermon: Marriage and Divorce, Jeffersonville, IN, Feb 21, 1965
