Jean Mbaya, the pastor of Sion Tabernacle, a message church in Kinshasa, DRC, was arrested in March 2021 in connection with the alleged murder Esther Kalonji.  
Jean Mbaya, the pastor of Sion Tabernacle, a message church in Kinshasa, DRC, was found guilty of the murder of Esther Kalonji.  He was sentenced to fifteen years in prison but his sentence has been appealed as being too lenient.

After months of investigation (between March and August 2021 ) in the case of the death of Sister Esther Kalonji, it has been reported that Pastor Jean Mbaya was found guilty of murder and sentenced to 15 years in prison. After the decision, the Public Prosecutor has apparently appealed the sentence, considering it was insufficient given the gravity of the finding against Pastor Jean Mbaya Kalala.
