Strangely, the word Seraphim also means "fiery serpent".  This word is used for the serpents that afflicted the Children of Israel when they complained about what God had done for them, and the brass serpent that was set upon a pole for their healing.  Isaiah also prophecied, ''Rejoice not thou, whole Palestina, because the rod of him that smote thee is broken: for out of the serpent's root shall come forth a cockatrice, and his fruit shall be a fiery flying serpent.'' (Isaiah 14:29)

====Commentary by William Branahm====
:''"Seraphims" it means "burners," the word "Seraphim" means. Which it is next to the altar. Actually, the Seraphims is the one who receives the sacrifice, and cleanses the worshipper, and then presents him to God, the Seraphim does. Now, this Seraphims was angelic beings, and they are the very next ones to God, right at the altar. And they receive the sacrifice. It shows the justice of God, that sin cannot come in His Presence unless it's been atoned for.''

:''Now we find out, that, these wings over Their faces was because They were in the Presence of God, reverent. And if a holy Seraphim has to hide His face behind special covering, the One who knows no sin, never sinned, but yet in the Presence of the Holy God has to hide His holy face in the Presence of God, what is a hypocrite going to do on that Day? What is the backslider going to do on that Day? What's the ungodly going to do on that Day, when you come? And you're going to have to face Him.
:'' There is only one thing. You say, "But He never made me wings to cover my face." But He shed the Blood of His Own Son, that you could cover your face with. That's right. That's His only covering that He has for the human race, is the Blood of Jesus Christ.

David said that God rode upon a cherub (II Samuel 22:11, Psalms 18:10), and Ezekiel saw cherubs standing by wheels, each with four wings, the form of a man's hand under their wings, and four faces: one of an cherub, a man, a lion and an eagle (Ezekiel 10).  Ezekiel saw a vision of the temple of God in heaven, with Cherubims with two faces engraved on and around the doors (Ezekiel 41:18, 25).

:''The flaming sword of the guarding cherubim has been sheathed. But it was not sheathed ere its blade was bloody with the blood of the Lamb.
