Holy Spirit: Difference between revisions

||The Holy Spirit is God the Father, the Spirit of Jesus Christ.

||That God Himself might dwell in His church, and work his Divine will through the church to finish His plan of redemption.

The Holy Spirit is God the Father.  This is evident as the virgin Mary was found with child of the Holy Ghost (Matt 1:18) and as Jesus said ''"God is a Spirit"'' (John 4:24).  The word “Spirit” means “breath” or “wind.”  Jesus said, The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. (John 3:8)  

To be born of the Spirit is to be filled with the Holy Ghost - this means that your old nature has been replaced with God's own life and character.  While physical signs have accompanied the Holy Spirit at times (a dove at Jesus' baptism, and 120 flames of fire at Pentecost) the fruit of the Spirit proclaims his presence, just as miracles proclaims the power of the Father.  The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance.  

Before Jesus ascended into Heaven, he said ''"behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high."'' (Luke 24:49)  When the disciples returned to Jerusalem, they were baptized by the Holy Spirit, and boldly proclaimed the Word of the Lord. Receiving the Holy Ghost is the only way to fulfil God's plan of redemption and restoration that began in the Garden of Eden when he called to Adam ''"Where art thou?"''
