Brother Marathai was born and raised a Brahmin Hindu, memorizing all 18 chapters of the Hindu Bhagavad Gita, and joined a militant Hindustani army as a young man. While walking down the street one day, he heard the words of a street-preacher, and was overcome with the beauty of the scripture "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)
When Brother Marathai heard that a man named William Branham was coming to India, he was not that interested. However, a friend of his was a minister and had secured a seat on the platform, so Brother Marathai joined him. Here are some of the things he saw:
All the streets were packed with people. And I had the privilege, because one of my relatives was well known to Brother Branham, so, I went with him on the platform...though I was not believing in what he was standing for... And it is not some tell-tale story, or somebody else's story, I seen it myself!" |

There was one lady, from Calcutta. She had...her back was completely eaten up by cancer. She could not even remove the flies from her face. She was looking like a living corpse. Suddenly, Brother Branham stopped immediately. He put his hand up, in the air and say "I know one lady is in great need here, of healing. She comes from the far east, I believe Calcutta. And she has a bad cancer, her whole back is eaten up by cancer. And there are no hopes of her living at all. But this lady has been brought by some of her friends and relatives, and she is somewhere here. I don't know her, I don't know what she is doing. And I don't know the people who brought her also. But her name is 'so-and-so'.
I don't remember the name now that he told her. And the stretcher was brought on the platform. [She was] so weak.
[Brother Branham said] "Then in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, you are whole, you are alright, walk up, and go home."
And that lady jumped! Praise the Lord! What a wonderful thing.

[One evening Brother Branham came late to the platform and said, "the angel told me that] the demons and the evil spirits are working through the pastors of some of the churches." He told the names of the pastors, also. It is not good for me to tell the names because we don't want to dis-reputize anyone. He told...very prominent pastors who were taking the leading part in these meetings, who had made all arrangements for the meetings.
And they were selling out these tickets. Healing tickets, they were selling out to people. Selling out the benches also, front benches, so they could have the first opportunity to hear him, and to be called by Brother Branham.
Brother Branham, the Lord showed him, he said "I saw in the vision, In Taj-Mahal Hotel, before you do any ministry tonight, first of all, you just ask all of those devils to be driven out.
So that day, he spent all of his time only in prayer, casting out demons from that place. No message, no healing, for one day.
Editor's Note: This second day of meetings with no prayer for the sick is not reported in Owen Jorgensen's book, Supernatural: The Life of William Branham.
