McDonald's 1963 investigation, clearly shows two distinct circular cloud features over the Flagstaff, Arizona area on February 28, 1963. The larger, brighter ring is the main structure documented at approximately 43 km altitude. Below and behind it (in the distance) is a fainter, trailing ring or puff-like formation, identified by McDonald as a separate "smoke ring" at roughly 26 km altitude.
