What did William Branham believe about the Holy Spirit? Was his view Biblical?

What William Branham taught?

William Branham believed that the Holy spirit is "God's prophet", a sign of the last days.

What the Bible teaches us

What is the Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit is the spirit of God.
What is the purpose of the Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit is a witness that God is truth, and converts those that repent. It is the key to a healthy relationship with God.
How do you receive the Holy Spirit? Believe the Gospel of Christ, repent, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins.
What is the evidence of someone posessing the Holy Spirit? Obedience to the Word of God, and expression and witness to His life:
  • But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me... (Acts 1:8a)
  • ...and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness. (Acts 4:31b)
  • For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. For every tree is known by his own fruit. (Luke 6:43-44a)
  • But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! (Galatians 5:22-23 NLT)
  • But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, (John 14:26a)

And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.

Quotes of William Branham

The only thing, that, we're so dull in faith, till we fail to see Him. That's the reason God sends prophets to the earth. See, people won't read their Bible. And they--they don't. They just go, so God always sends them a sign. And usually a prophet is a sign. See? And today the Holy Ghost is our Sign, 'cause He is God's Prophet moving through us. HE IS GOD'S PROPHET, a Sign of the last days.[1]
